Uproot Robert
Robert is a surgeon who is born in Louisiana. His family beats the stereotype of being uneducated African Americans. His parents are school teachers in fact and even though they perform the same jobs they are underpaid due to their race. Robert's situation is comparable to the movie because he beats adversity and attains an education just like the blacks got freedom from slavery and even though the slaves got freedom essentially they did not because they were imprisoned for looking at a white man the wrong way. Robert got an education and couldn't perform his job because white people thought he was incapable of doing surgery because he was black.
Robert uprooted his life and moved to California so he could do his job and he struggled at first but ended up rising to high society. Uprooting for Robert was difficult as it is for most during this time. Even though the south was rough with its racism the travel to California was just as rough. Once he got to California he flourished as a surgeon becoming one of the best in Los Angeles. Even though he has what he thought would be a lavish lifestyle he still struggles with internal issues that prevents him from being happy. I think it's due to all the racial issues he dealt with throughout his life and he is never able to get over them.
Uprooting would seem to be very difficult for African Americans during this time. If they decide to move they might get caught along the way and end up being separated as a family. It would be a very scary thing to do because you don't know what lies wherever you go. They wanted a better life for themselves but I think no matter where you were during this time it was difficult for African Americans to live normally.
