I feel like we have come to this understanding that our nation is defined by the ongoing culture, but that's just not the case. We are so much more than the revolving sense of culture that we are stuck in. We are stuck in this circle of poverty; this cycle of growing up in poverty, then being educated at a disadvantage, then struggling in the job world, then failure to escape this cycle, thus the family is born into poverty and it all begins again. In terms of how culture created imperialism is based on somewhat of the help of western countries that happen to be wealthier this is spread via global transmission of media. As we obtain aspects of other cultures, this lesser culture somewhat loses its cultural identity in this process. For example in reference to the film we watched and the involvement of culture within social environments and housing, the "white flight."
***Disclaimer I can only give information on my opinions based on outside research because dumb amazon has yet to send me the book Anarchy of Empire, so hopefully I can add as much without the reading!!!***
Race definitely has influence on the way in which we view culture as a whole. Social segregation often has become a direct result of geographic segregation whether that means by choice or by historical facts. We have adapted into this world that using certain social norms to explain the attributes of individuals and their culture. But that simply won't do. For example, in the article posted it mentions clothing and a certain personality that one assumes based on the dress. A black man when wearing a hoodie and pants with no belt shouldn't have any assumptions that come with it. But instead we have turned our culture into assuming this man has no proper schooling and doesn't care to pursue a career. What's to say he hasn't been in proper school systems since a young age? That is not something we have any ways of knowing. It just isn't just and is why we have let race overtake much of our thoughts on culture. We have linked onto these titles and stereotypical things to make excuse for why they aren't living in this "white norm." This idea that the "white man's burden" can save all and is to look down upon all aspects that aren't normal in this culture.
